God is surrounding the people of Ukraine with His servants. John and Kathy (retired MTW missionaries) have returned to Slovakia to help in the work of housing displaced people and meeting the crisis needs of the Ukrainian people. They have been working between Kosice, Slovakia, L’viv, Ukraine, and the MTW Crisis Center in Krakow. They have been working on getting a shelter ready for displaced persons, collecting and purchasing supplies to take to the Hungary/Ukraine border, and serving as drivers to those who need to get to and from Ukraine.
Thus far, John has already made trips to the Ukraine border and to Krakow. As John writes, “We will drive from Kosice to the Hungary/Ukraine border to deliver food and clothing for a women’s shelter in Ukraine. Additionally, we will be carrying a Ukrainian’s pastor’s wife so that she can see her son who had to remain in Ukraine. We have seen many heartbreaking tears from this one woman and learned firsthand the stories of many others.”
John and Kathy are also helping with the Roma that have fled Ukraine. They were able to go to a small village in Slovakia where some Roma were staying. Due to racism against the Roma in Slovakia, many cannot get rides or passage on buses. “I will return to pick up the Roma from that village and drive them to a major city where they will board trains to, eventually, Ireland where there are Roma communities that will welcome them.”
Please pray for this network of believers in Slovakia to serve those displaced by the war.
