4/26/2022 – Song ‘Zombie’: A lesson in ignoring the past

The genocidal atrocities perpetrated by the designs of Vladimir Putin are killing thousands and displacing millions. We ask with bewilderment, do not normal Russians see what is being perpetuated by their country? We also must ask, will the West pretend that it is not what it is – but, what IS ‘it’?  The inverse of freedom is control – the control of a people is perpetrated by tyrants armed with ideologies starting with the children who are taught not to see what is, but to see only what the collective allows.  It’s easier to believe that history is not repeating itself, yet failure to believe it does not change the fact that it has repeated today in Ukraine – the elimination of a people who desire to be free and not controlled.

This Ukrainian rendition of ‘Zombie’ was a hit by the well-known group Cranberries.  In this rendition, the lyrics of ‘Zombie’ are placed in a history classroom where we are taught that we cannot ignore what Russia is doing in Ukraine. Here are the lyrics (from Azlyrics.com) followed by the video:

“Zombie”

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken

But you see it’s not me
It’s not my family
In your head, in your head
They are fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head, in your head
They are cryin’

In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey
What’s in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey, oh

Another mother’s breakin’
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken

It’s the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head
They’re still fightin’
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head, in your head
They are dyin’

In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey
What’s in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie, hey, hey, hey
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Hey, oh, ya, ya-a

The world-famous song “Zombie” of the group The Cranberries has again gained relevance in connection with the war in Ukraine.
Caring Ternopolians and Ukraine Forever – Український культурний мовник (who started their work in the Fine City) have created their own video version on the cover of the Odessa rock band Grandma’s Smuzi – Zombie.
Even before the beginning of the war, concerts were planned by musicians in Ternopil and other cities. We are now looking forward to the performance of the boys after Our Victory!

  1. Matt.28 Jesus said “All authority in heaven and earth is given to Me…Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world!”

Ps.37 “Fret not because of evil men, of him who prospers in his way, for they shall soon be cut down like grass and wither like a green herb.”

Where is the Egyptian empire, Babylonian Empire, Third Reich, British Empire? Martin Luther wrote “The Word, above all earthly powers (no thanks to them) abides..His kingdom is forever!”
