9/11/2022 – War update and commentary: Counteroffensive continues

From Jamie Peipon: Some analysts are saying that what happened today in Ukraine may go down as one of the greatest counterattacks in the history of war. What a time to be alive! The occupied cities continued to fall today as Ukrainian flags continued to rise in those cities across the eastern front. Kupiansk and Izium were both confirmed as liberated as well as some smaller towns. A Russian soldier on video says that they are all retreating from Svatove which is another 60 km deeper into Russian-occupied territory. The Ukrainian armed forces aren’t even there yet and Russians are running for their lives. Shocking numbers of heavy equipment are just being abandoned which will surely be put to good use by Ukraine. There have also been unconfirmed rumors of fighting in Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, and even all the way in Donetsk. The city of Donetsk has been occupied by Russia since April 7th, 2014. The other cities have been occupied over the past several months. Ukraine has effectively reversed months of Russian gains in a matter of hours. These are exciting times of forward motion that Ukrainians everywhere have been waiting for.

Meanwhile, Russia’s ministry of defense has stuck with their normal line: “Everything is going to plan!” Clearly that’s not the case, but they continue to repeat lies about how they’ve destroyed more Ukrainian planes/HIMARS/etc. than Ukraine has ever had. They are reporting that this is just an organized withdrawal. We know that isn’t true because this isn’t just a planned withdrawal. You don’t have massive amounts of soldiers turning themselves in as POWs during a planned withdrawal. But we also know it isn’t orderly: in many cases, they’re running away in panic and they’re leaving all kinds of ammunition, tanks, and other mechanized vehicles behind.

Now, as Ukraine continues this counteroffensive, one danger is overextension. It will be very tempting for Ukraine to go farther than they initially planned just because they can. May each step be guided only as far as God would have them go.

“The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.”
