10/12/2022 – War update and commentary: ‘Normal’ life continues even from a bomb shelter

From Jamie Peipon: The destruction in downtown Kyiv from yesterday can be seen in the picture. All of that is cleared out today and the giant craters in the street have already been paved over. Traffic along this road is fully restored. You just can’t stop these people from moving forward. A journalist was in the famously deep Ukrainian subway system in which a large number of people found themselves sheltering during the air raid sirens. She looked over and saw that her neighbor was researching vacuum cleaners online. “Normal” life continues, even from a bomb shelter.

People are still working to do their part, whatever that part might be, to get closer to victory. Last night, there was a statement from local authorities asking those in the city of Kyiv and its surrounding region to reduce their electricity consumption so that the necessary repairs could more easily take place. In response, residents consumed 26.5% less when compared to a normal autumn evening. I mentioned yesterday that a new fundraiser had raised about $5 million. As of this morning, that campaign had made it to $9.5 million. Everyone is doing their part.

Today, russia continued its attacks and fired at least 28 missiles into Ukraine. 16 of them were launched from planes in the air, the 12 remaining were shot from the sea. 20 of them were brought down by Ukraine’s current air defense systems. The majority of the missiles were reportedly shot from russian strategic bombers operating over the Caspian Sea. russia’s ministry of defense has confirmed what we’ve already known: they are intentionally trying to take out civilian energy targets. Approximately 30% of Ukraine’s entire energy infrastructure was hit by russian missiles in the last 48 hours.

That said, Ukraine’s defense minister has reported that some new German air defense systems are, as of today, in Ukraine. He also reported four additional HIMARS units were in country. There will be significant meetings tomorrow among the G7 leaders to discuss what other equipment can be given to Ukraine, particularly in response to russia’s brutal attacks.

Lastly, here is a quote from Pavel Gubarev, the russia-appointed “governor” of the Donetsk region that was broadcast on russian TV: “It’s very important to us to create an image of the enemy that will be based on reality. These are Russian people, that are possessed by the devil. We are coming to convince them, not to kill them. But if you don’t want us to change your mind, then we’ll kill you. We will kill as many is as necessary. We will kill 1 million, 5 million, or we can exterminate all of you. We’ll kill until you understand that you’re possessed and need to be cured.” There are still people calling Ukraine to come to the negotiation table in order to end the war. How are you supposed to negotiate with a terrorizing, genocidal state whose stated goal is to make you russian or to exterminate you?

“Come, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.”

  1. Thankful for more military aid and funds! What fundraiser was that? Almost doubled!! 😁

    Liked the video I saw of the people singing in the subway. Thankful for Gods protection.

    Unbelieveable, what that governor said. Basically admitting to genocide. 😢😢😢😢

  4. The story of David and Goliath is there for our edification and truly, it may never have been more applicable than now.

    This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 4
    And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

    And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
