From Jamie Peipon: The Kherson region is known for the delicious watermelons that they grow. The “monument” in the picture above is in the northeastern Kherson region and is a reminder that you are now in watermelon country. For the last several months, as the various shaping operations in the south have been ongoing, the whole country has had quite a hankering for watermelon. A military official was on a news show yesterday and was asked about what was coming next. He went on to say, “As you know, I couldn’t possibly comment…” while reaching off screen to grab a slice of watermelon that he started eating during the interview. We all know what he meant.
The situation there is complicated and difficult. Kherson has undoubtedly faced the same murdering, raping, and looting which other occupied areas have experienced. However, putin declared martial law today in the regions of Ukraine that were (shamefully and “sham”fully) “annexed.” The major change this will bring going forward is that the russian army will now be murdering, raping, and looting in a more official capacity. Some have said that this is an effort to squash resistance movements in occupied territories. Others believe that it is a pretense to “deport” Ukrainians from cities back to russia… which, as has been written so many times before, is an actual act of genocide (and is part of russia’s standard operating procedures).
While the russian army is busy with commandments 6-10 (murdering, stealing, adultery, lying, and coveting), the russian Orthodox Church has its own goals. It would seem they are preoccupied with taking the Lord’s name in vain. Reports have emerged that the rOC is buying properties in Norway that have a view of Norwegian military bases. This is just another reminder of how Ukraine is only the beginning for russia. They will not stop there and will continue to sow discord in Europe with the goal of fracturing alliances and gaining more land. They will not stop until they are stopped. Clearly, they are not above using any resource at their disposal as they already are trying to accomplish these additional European goals.
As we wait on news from Kherson, Ukraine’s Intelligence Directorate Head, Kyrylo Budanov, offered his prediction about the coming months. He predicts that Ukraine will have “significant victories” soon and even that the whole war should be over by next summer.
“The Mighty One, God the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.”
