11/3/2022 – War update and commentary

From Jamie Peipon: Not much movement has been reported today. A couple of weeks ago, most of the reports were that Ukraine was probing into areas all across the front and that russian forces were scrambling. Bakhmut was the only city that russia was apparently attacking over and over (with no results). That narrative seems to have changed a bit as Ukraine’s activity has remained similar, but there are reports of russian forces trying to counterattack in other areas, particularly in the north (near Svatove) and the south (around Kherson and Zaporizhzhia). These russian attacks have not been successful and may be attempts at throwing recently-mobilized troops into action at various points. If that is what is happening, they aren’t particularly changing the war in a significant way.

Reports continue to roll in about russian conscripts who are unhappy with their conditions. One video filmed at a military base showed dozens, maybe hundreds, russian conscripts who were protesting the fact that they hadn’t received the pay they were promised. At another base, the commander reportedly expelled mobilized troops from the base because the governor of the region was about to visit and he was concerned that they would ask “uncomfortable questions about supplies.” There are a lot of negative signs, but we’re still waiting for the next buckle or break that will equate to a significant Ukrainian victory on the battlefield.

I’ve written previously about the comedian/politician/fundraiser in Ukraine named Serhiy Prytula. He has facilitated fundraising campaigns from the beginning. Today, he launched a new campaign that is bigger than any of his other campaigns to date. He was able to located 50 British Spartan armored personnel carriers that would cost about $5.5 million. The campaign will run for one week: November 2-8. I don’t know where the money is coming from… but he raised about $2.7 million in about nine hours. We’ll see if they’ll be able to raise the second half just as quickly.

“My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen upon me.”
