12/7/2022 – War update and commentary

From Jamie Peipon: In the picture you can see the russian “dragon’s teeth” that they’ve put out in Ukraine’s east in order to slow any Ukrainian offensives in the area. They’ve been out for a few weeks now and you can see that they’re already falling apart. By contrast, you can see “dragon’s teeth” that were used during World War 2 in other parts of Europe that are still in good shape, although now with moss often growing on them. This is a great example of yet another difference between russia and Ukraine. One country cuts corners and creates the appearance of increased productivity through shoddy craftsmanship. The other values excellence and productivity through long hours and hard work. I don’t think it is untrue to say that this one single difference is THE difference that explains Ukraine’s success in fending off their foes.

Yesterday’s news about Ukraine attacking air fields deep in russian territory has continued to generate speculation about what was used to accomplish this and what it means for the remainder of the war. Both sides seem to agree that whatever it was, was launched from the territory of Ukraine. The most fascinating elements of the story to me are that Ukraine has said that there were Ukrainian special operations forces deep in russia that were guiding these weapons to their targets. That is a pretty shocking revelation.

As far as the weapon itself, sources from russia are reporting that the attack was carried out by an old soviet reconnaissance drone that Ukraine modified. The day before the attacks, however, Ukraine nonchalantly announced that they were developing a drone that could attack at a range of 1000 km (620 miles). No matter what it was, this is an absolute disaster for russian air defenses. How an earth did an enemy aircraft fly hundreds of kilometers through russian air space without being brought down, or even fired upon? There are no solid answers, but it is still embarrassing and inexplicable for the russian armed forces. This evening, at the Engels air base that was attacked yesterday, air raid sirens were active. They likely had not tested them for some time.

The russians are also getting nervous about a second wave of mobilization. There is apparently some concern amongst the population about this and the government is encouraging people to only listen to official government and other authorized sources.

“The wicked are estranged from the womb;
they go astray from birth, speaking lies.
They have venom like the venom of a serpent,
like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
so that it does not hear the voice of charmers
or of the cunning enchanter.”
