1/2/2023 – Belgorod Dnestrovsky: Undaunted in the New Year

From Lyuda (Day 313): Dear brothers and sisters, The first day of the New Year was very good. Many people came to the church and from all directions we heard “Happy New Year”, people greeted each other, wished soon Victory and the general mood was full of hope. Our youth were already there, tired after the sleepless night but happy. They played games, watched movies and had a good fellowship. It was so nice to see Veronika, the girl who was sad and detached last night, smiling and talkative.

Sergey preached about the mission of Christ (“ this child is set for the fall and rising of many….” Luke 2:34) and we had the Lord’s supper. It was very special. During the worship Sergey read the message of our brother Paul Lukoshkin who is fighting now, he sent greeting to the church we also watched a fragment of the speech of our President where he speaks about the miracle of Christmas – the birth of the Savior and greets the nation.

And there was another special moment, we watched a video greeting from Adeline Wallace, our dear sisters who served as a missionary in our church and medical clinic for more than 10 years.

Our refugees had questions about the Lord’s supper during the Bible study last week and Sergey explained them that this sacrament is for those who received Jesus Christ and believe in Him as their Savior. I was so touched to see four ladies of the group participating in the Lord’s supper with us.
One family from the church neighborhood began to attend our church few months ago, after the worship yesterday they came up to Sergey asking questions about church membership. They come with their two children and enjoy the feeling of the family. Sergey is going to meet with them during the week.

This holiday season is special for us and we thank God for His protection and for the peace He gives to our hearts. And although attacks on our cities occur every night, people no longer experience fear and panic, but disgust and irritation. The video of Kiev during the New Year night became viral. While the drones were attacking the city in one neighborhood people opened the windows and sang our national anthem with the accompaniment of the sounds of destruction of the drones in the night sky by our air defense.

We wish you a good week and a blessed year!
In Christ,
Lyuda
