2/16/2023 – “It was similar to what I had experienced when we were in Auschwitz some time ago”

From Maia Mikhaluk in Kyiv (357th day of ruzzian invasion): Today I saw a long, detailed, and interesting article in Time magazine about atrocities during ruzzian occupation in the village Yahidne, Chernihiv region. We were in that village several times during our humanitarian aid trips.

We were in that basement where people were held prison for 25 days. I remember the feeling of heaviness coming out of the darkness of that basement to the sunlight – it was similar to what I had experienced when we were in Auschwitz some time ago. Your heart breaks hearing about the suffering of people, for the horrors they experienced, for the trauma that will haunt survivors, especially children.

But the suffocating heaviness was more from the deep realization of evil and depravity human beings were capable of. How much corruption should happen to a human (created in the image of God) to be capable of such cruelty towards those who are weaker, to children, to the elderly.

This war is not bringing out anything new, of course. Crimes against humanity happen in every war. We read about it in books and see it in movies. But when you come in close contact with it, it’s incredibly depressing.

I will put a link to the article in the first comment. Facebook seems to hide the posts with links to other resources. In any case, many of my friends have been saying that are not seeing my posts in their timelines anymore. The only way to see them is to come to my page. I am still writing every day for 357 days. My Word doc, where I back up my posts, shows that I have written 182,253 words.

13 days left till spring… Less than two weeks!

  1. Our Father in heaven,
    Deliver us from evil.
Give us today our daily bread.
    Lead us not into temptation.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
