2/17/2023 – Missile attacks

Today’s picture shows the remains of a house in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk oblast. An elderly couple lived there. They grew various grapes and were waiting for spring to start tending to their vineyard. They had plans that the Russians ruined last night. A 79-year-old woman died, and her husband survived (source: head of the Dnipropetrovsk region military administration)

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 358):

Let them vanish like water that runs away;
when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
Psalm 58:7

Last night I posted my daily update and turned off the laptop. As I was getting ready to go to bed, I saw a notification on my phone that all of Ukraine was under an air raid warning. Another massive missile attack was underway.

36 missiles were launched at Ukraine. Our air-defense forces shot down only half (16) of them because of the usage of Kh-type rockets, which cannot be intercepted with the current air-defense systems. This type of missile is meant to destroy aircraft carriers, and this is the type that destroyed the apartment building in Dnipro a month ago. The rockets hit infrastructure facilities in the Lviv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. 1 woman was killed, and 7 more people were injured.

Thankfully, the attack did not damage the power grid, so blackouts were not needed. The experts said that with the aid received from our partners and the fearless hard work of our power engineers are now able to repair the damage faster than the Russians attack and destroy. It is a hopeful statement as we still have over a month of cold weather ahead of us, even though this winter did turn out to be very mild.

After last night’s attack, a missile fragment landed in Moldova, close to the Ukrainian border. This is the fourth time it has happened. Please, keep praying for Moldova and for all Russian plans to fail there.

Tonight, Kharkiv was attacked with S-300 missiles. This is another type of missile that our air defense cannot intercept. We’ll learn more about the damage in the morning.

The next massive missile attack is expected around February 22-24. Please, pray for special protection on those days.

A highlight of the day is a POW swap. 100 military personnel and one civilian were brought home to the territory of Ukraine. Among the freed soldiers are National Guardsmen, border guards, and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 94 of them are defenders of Mariupol, including 63 soldiers from Azovstal. We keep praying for all the defenders who were taken captive to return home safely.
