From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 367):
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.
Psalm 67:1-2
Today’s weather was erratic, changing from a bright sunny warm morning to a windy and cloudy evening with cold rain. Perhaps the weather reads the news from Ukraine and changes accordingly…
Our power engineers did the impossible, and we haven’t had a blackout in over two weeks. They say there will be no blackouts without further attacks on our energy system. However, some sources say Russians may change their tactics, and missile attacks would now target water supply and road infrastructure. Perhaps this change in tactics explains the extended periods between the missile attacks.
Guatemala became the first country in Latin America to support the international tribunal for the crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine. It is a breakthrough, and we pray that more countries in South America and Africa (traditionally under Russian influence) will follow the example. However, China’s position has been disturbing. There are talks about China considering supplying drones and military components to Russia. It is expected that totalitarian governments would side with each other, but let’s pray for God’s intervention.
While I thought it would be traumatizing to revisit the past year’s events, God was faithful to remind us about His power and mercy. A few documentaries were presented for the invasion anniversary. They mainly focus on the events of the first weeks since those military operations can be openly discussed now without threatening the undergoing operations. In one of the documentaries, they talk about the defense of Kyiv. The Russians hoped to deploy their troops in the heart of Kyiv, quickly seize power and victoriously march through the streets within a few days of the invasion. However, our air-defense forces outsmarted them and made the aerial operation impossible. They tried surrounding Kyiv by land, and one of the crucial battles was in the town of Moshchun. That’s where Russia lost most of its elite forces. As one of the military commanders said, that victory was possible because Ukrainians were fiercely fighting for their capital city and because nature provided essential aid – the Irpin river flooded the area and prevented the advance of the Russian army. We know who rules over nature and makes rivers flood – we know who stands behind this victory.
This story encouraged me and reminded me that God was with us even when everything looked hopeless, so we shouldn’t doubt him now.
Please, keep praying for our soldiers, especially in the Bakhmut area. Pray for more supernatural interferences. And pray for the world leaders to choose truth and life.
