From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 381):
In distress you called, and I delivered you;
I answered you in the secret place of thunder;
Psalm 81:7
Bakhmut is the longest battle of the war. The city has been under attack for over 10 months, yet it hasn’t surrendered to the enemy. The Russian troops are trying to surround the town, and the situation is critical.
Hundreds of people are killed and wounded in the Bakhmut area daily. Even though the experts believe that the Ukrainian losses are at least 5 times less than the losses of the Russian army, the number is still overwhelming. The spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Serhii Cherevaty, shared the statistics of one of the recent days, “the enemy shelled the Bakhmut section of the front 157 times with various types of artillery weapons. There were 53 skirmishes. During that day, 221 enemies were killed, and 314 received wounds of various degrees of severity.” What terrifying statistics, and how horrible to know that those 500 Russian soldiers lost their lives and health not for a noble cause but for false imperialistic ambitions.
Please, keep praying for Bakhmut, its defenders, and the residents who chose to stay there.

Thank you so much, Ira, for sharing this photo and caption. It made me smile but also brought tears to my eyes. So bittersweet to see the joking & humour amidst the suffering and hardship of the war. Praying with you for Bakhmut.
