3/20/2023 – We are waiting on the Lord’s righteousness, justice, and healing

Today’s photo – kids playing football in the city of Izum, Kharkiv region. The city was liberated in September 2022 after over 6 months of Russian occupation. You can see a bombed-out building in the background. That’s how life and war coexist in Ukraine. Photo by Yan Dobronosov.

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 389):

For you are the glory of their strength;
by your favor our horn is exalted.
For our shield belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Psalm 89:17-18

There are days when we don’t have any big reports about massive missile strikes, but it doesn’t mean that the war stands still on those days. Every day we lose the beautiful men and women of Ukraine both at the front lines and in relatively safe locations. In the last 24 hours, Russian troops shelled the Chernihiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions. 21 citizens were injured. 3 people were killed.

Following the mandatory evacuation order, all children have been evacuated from Chasiv Yar, a town close to Bakhmut. The military administration of the Donetsk region reported that it wasn’t an easy task. At least those kids are no longer in danger.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a sphere of life or a group of people that haven’t been affected by this war. It seems that wherever you turn, you see the consequences of this brutality. Families torn apart because of the war. Volunteers rescuing pets who lost their owners in the war. Almost every other person suffering from concentration problems and memory loss due to stress. These are just a few of the issues I discussed with my friend earlier today as we encountered these problems. But the problem is much greater, and the scope of the problem keeps increasing over time.
We are waiting on the Lord’s righteousness, justice, and healing.

  1. 2 Samuel 30 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;

    2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.

    3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.

    4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

    5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

    6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning HIM, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God…

    Psalm 70 Make haste, o God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord.

    2 Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.

    3 Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.

    4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

    5 But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O Lord, make no tarrying.
