3/24/2023 – A young painter, a spot-on image of Ukraine

Today’s picture – Nazar, a 16-year-old painter. Photo by Lala Tarapakina.

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 393):

The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Psalm 93:1

Today, I read about a military volunteer from New Zealand who was killed in Ukraine. A few days ago, there was a report about a volunteer from Estonia. There may be more stories, but not all are publicly shared. Today, I heard about a new documentary about the International Legion, consisting of foreign citizens who joined the resistance against Russian aggression. I appreciate hearing their side of this war we are living through (the documentary is available at the link https://youtu.be/f57PQq3OpIA), and I am forever grateful to all who chose to fight for Ukraine whether on the battlefield, in government offices, or in prayer.

Another story that grabbed my heart today was shared by Lala Tarapakina. She is a volunteer and met this boy (in the picture) at a village in the Chernihiv region, close to the Belarussian border. His name is Nazar, and he is 16. He has 6 siblings, and his father was killed in a battle near Soledar (Donetsk region). Their house burned down. However, Nazar doesn’t give up – he keeps dreaming. He dreams of becoming an artist, so he paints. Half of the money received for his paintings, Nazar donates to the Ukrainian army, and the other half is used for new canvas and paints.
This young boy, with his harsh life circumstances yet unshattered dream that he is working toward, is a spot-on image of Ukraine. May the Lord bless this young heart.

  1. Our Father in heaven,
    Deliver us from evil
    Give us today our daily bread
    Lead us not into temptation
    Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    Hallowed be Thy name
    Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
    for Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory

  2. Heb.12:
    26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”(Haggai 2:6) 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
    28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.” (Deut. 4:24)
