4/21/2023 – Longing for the good old days when a newborn panda bear would be the hottest news of the day

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 421):

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 121:1‭-‬2‭, ‬7‭-‬8

Kyiv and a few other regions are under the air raid warning. We’ve had several kamikaze drone attacks in different areas over the past week. They say that the Russians received a new shipment from Iran.

The Russian army has renewed attacks on Vuhledar (Donetsk region). There were no attacks for about a month there, even though shelling continued. It may be the beginning of a new campaign or an attempt to distract our troops from Bakhmut. In general, our military experts say that the Russians attack in different locations along the front line, which might mean they are confused and unsure what to focus on, or it could be that our army ruins their plans. Please, pray for our defenders in Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Vuhledar, and other intense locations.

I heard a news reporter reminisce about the good old days when a newborn panda bear would be the hottest news of the day. We all long for the days when we could laugh over nonsense and didn’t need to check the news a few times a day. We want our boring planned-out life back.

  1. Screwtape Letters by C.S.Lewis
    “Your man may be untroubled about the Future, not because he is concerned with the Present, but because he has persuaded himself that the Future is, going to be agreeable. As long as that is the real course of his tranquillity, his tranquillity will do us [devils] good, because it is only piling up more disappointment, and therefore more impatience, for him when his false hopes are dashed. If, on the other hand, he is aware that horrors may be in store for him and is praying for the virtues, wherewith to meet them, and meanwhile concerning himself with the Present because there, and there alone, all duty, all grace, all knowledge, and all pleasure dwell, his state is very undesirable [from Hell’s viewpoint] and should be attacked at once.”
