5/5/2023 – “When will they get tired of shooting at us?”

Today’s picture – the beauty of nature and the harsh reality of the war tightly intertwined in a park in Kyiv. Photos by Nazar Furyk.

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 435):

For I know that the Lord is great,
and that our Lord is above all gods.
Psalm 135:5

Another drone attack in the pre-dawn hours of the day. Most reactions I heard were the weary words, “When will they get tired of shooting at us?” Weariness, disbelief, and inability to understand why someone would keep causing death and destruction.

There are moments when my brain refuses to comprehend reality and starts wondering if the past 14+ months were just a dream. That’s when I start convincing myself that nothing is out of the ordinary, and we simply came to Grandma’s for our traditional weekend visit. When you see the beautiful nature around you, trees in blossoms, and storks circling the skies over your garden, you cannot believe that only a few hundred kilometers away, someone’s life is ending from a Russian bomb, bullet, or missile. Lord, help us all wake up from this nightmare and see Your name glorified in Ukraine and over all the earth.

  1. “War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”
