6/10/2023 – We raise our eyes to the heavens and wait upon the Lord…

Today’s picture – the people in the flooded Kherson region need not only evacuation and humanitarian aid but also a lot of support and compassion. Their whole life went underwater after a cruel and deliberate act of terrorism. Photo by Serhii Korovainyi.

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 471):

Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.
Psalm 21:11

Even being far from the active combat zone, we are bombed daily by the disturbing news. We frequently drown in the flood of anxiety and despair. We raise our eyes to the heavens and wait upon the Lord.

The Russians attacked Odesa with drones and missiles, hitting a residential building and leaving a massive crater in the place of a playground. This morning, they shelled a hospital in the Zaporizhzhia region. They keep bringing death and destruction.

However, we know that they will succeed only when we give up. A photographer documenting the events in the Kherson region after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam said that he expected his report to be about tragedy, yet it turned out to be a report about humanity and love.
A policeman giving his helmet to an older woman during the shelling of the evacuation route.
Volunteers rescuing a cat that desperately swam (!) to their boat for his life.
People rescuing a hedgehog with a scoop net.
A dog washed ashore near Odesa, 140 kilometers (almost 90 miles) from Kherson. It was holding onto a wooden log as if traveling on a raft.

And the most incredible reports of the Special Operations Forces rescuing people from the temporarily occupied territories. Like a story of a woman with a disabled husband who spent three days on a roof in a Russian-controlled territory begging for help. She said, “It was horrifying. I prayed all the prayers I remembered from childhood. It’s a miracle.”

Lord, we pray for more miracles! Let your light shine brighter in this darkness.
