6/16/2023 – “There are days when I don’t know what to say…”

Today’s picture — the Black Sea near Odesa has become the “lost and found” station. These flip-flops were washed ashore after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam. What happened to their owners? Are they alive and well? I wish things could talk. Photo by Serhii Kovalov (for Ukrainer).

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 477):

Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
Psalm 27:3

There are days when I don’t know what to say. It feels like I’ve used up all the words, yet there is no end to this war.

Russia put on trial 22 Ukrainians from Azovstal and wants to imprison them for 15 years to life. Of the 22 people on trial, 8 are women who were cooks at Azovstal (source — AP).

A 90-year-old woman from Kherson was crying for her dog and cat, which remained in her flooded house in Kherson. She lost everything she had, and yet her pets were miraculously rescued!

Graduates of one of Kyiv’s schools danced their graduation dance in an underground metro station because of an air raid.

For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will lift me high upon a rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
Psalm 27:5‭-‬6 ESV

  1. Psalm 13
    To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
    1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
    How long will you hide your face from me?
    2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
    and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
    How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

    3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
    light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
    4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
    lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

    5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
    my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
    6 I will sing to the Lord,
    because he has dealt bountifully with me.
