6/21/2023 – My today’s post may seem too fragmented, yet it reflects how I often feel…

Today’s picture — residents of Kherson dry their books after the flooding. It always amazes me how people’s values become evident in crises. Photo by Nick Tymchenko

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 482):

You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.
Psalm 32:7

Such deliberate cruelty is beyond me. Today, the Russians shelled the location in Kherson, where the emergency workers were clearing the site off of silt brought in during the flooding. During the attack, one emergency worker was killed, and 7 were severely injured (6 of them are in a hospital in critical condition).

A couple of days ago, they shelled the hangar with buses in the Kherson region.

The occupational authorities still do not allow international organizations to inspect the flooded territories in the occupied part of the Kherson region.

According to our intelligence, the invaders have additionally mined the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, especially its cooling block. I recently read an analyst say that it’s unlikely that Russia will use a nuclear weapon against Ukraine, but it is possible that negligence, ignorance, and human stupidity of Russian soldiers (and we’ve seen plenty of those over the past year of the full-scale war) may cause a nuclear disaster in the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

There were reports that the occupational authorities are inspecting and mining the houses of people who do not have or refuse to accept a Russian passport in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.

This is deliberate, unnecessary cruelty, but we rely on God and trust that He will restore justice one day.

Meanwhile, we had rain today. It was the first much-needed rain in two months. We hope it will give some moisture to our plants, as many people are worried about this year’s harvest. At the same time, there was a heavy storm in Kyiv, and many streets and passages were flooded with water reaching well above the knee.

Right now, the sirens went off in our location. Last night, Ukraine was attacked with Iranian-made kamikaze drones (31 out of 35 were shot down), and they reported a similar threat now.

My today’s post may seem too fragmented, yet it reflects how I often feel – filled with fragments that don’t fit together because they come from different worlds.

Lord, have mercy and put an end to this war. Grant Ukraine liberation and victory.

  1. Our Father in heaven,
    Deliver us from evil,
    Give us today our daiky bread.
    Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    Hallowed be Thy name.
    Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
    for Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
