8/21/2023 – There is no 100% safe place in a genocidal war…

Today’s picture is an illustration by Bohdana Chikilina. In many liberated villages, you can find “There are people here” or “People live here” written on the gates and walls. The locals hoped such signs could stop the invaders, but it was in vain. Bohdana’s illustration has a map of Ukraine with “There are people here” written on it.

From Ira Kapitonova near Kyiv (Day 543):

The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed;
he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established;
it shall never be moved.
Psalm 93:1

Over the past week, we’ve seen a significant breakthrough in providing F16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The US President allowed third countries to transfer their aircraft, and today Denmark and Netherlands announced that they would provide dozens of F16 jets once Ukrainian pilots finish their training (which would take at least six more months). A year ago, it was too good to even dream about, so we are grateful to our partners and thank the Lord for His faithfulness.

However, yesterday’s attack on Chernihiv remains the most discussed topic today.

It was discovered that the missile exploded on approach to the drama theater, which is usually done to intentionally maximize the damage to the people around rather than the building itself. This says a lot about the intended target. The missile hit minutes after the sirens went off, so many people could be outside trying to get to a nearby shelter.

The main idea that I’ve seen repeated over and over again by different analysts and experts is that we must understand that there is no 100% safe place in a genocidal war. After all the cruel attempts to exterminate Ukrainians and anything Ukrainian, it is naive to hope that this sort of enemy will stop at something unless they are stopped. Unfortunately, there are reports of many Ukrainian refugees being attacked or abused in their countries of residence by the Russians or local Putin fans just for being Ukrainian. Unfortunately, I’ve heard several firsthand accounts. We must accept the fact that there is no safe place for anyone in a world that tolerates this.

  2. Our Father in heaven,
    You have taught us to pray
    Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
    but who can forgive sins except God?
    We do not have the power or inclination
