From Ira Kapitonova near Kyiv (Day 549):
Day 549
The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
He sits enthroned upon the cherubim;
let the earth quake!
Psalm 99:1
Even though the days are still sweltering, the nights have gotten significantly cooler, and you feel the breath of fall in the air. It’s one of my favorite seasons, but it also has the footprint of war. It’s now associated with the anxiety for the upcoming school year and the possibility of massive missile attacks and blackouts. The war seeps into the deepest parts of our being and burns out anything it touches.
But we won’t stop resisting. We won’t stop living against all odds. We simply don’t have a choice. Our people have paid too high of a price, so we will not give up.

J.R.R.Tolkien wrote, after WWI and before WWII,
“..here he [Frodo] was, a little halfling from the Shire, a simple hobbit of the countryside, expected to find a way where the great ones could not go, or dared not go. It was an evil fate. But he had taken it on himself, in his own sitting-room in the far-off spring of another year, so remote now it was like a chapter in a story of the world’s youth…”
