From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 593):
I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done;
I ponder the work of your hands.
I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.
Psalm 143:5-6
Over the past week, I have seen at least three reports of churches being damaged during shelling in the Kherson region. Denominations make no difference — the Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Ukrainian Orthodox Church) in Kherson, a Greek-Catholic church in Beryslav, a Presbyterian Church in Kherson.
These are the reports of the past 4 or 5 days and just the ones I heard of. What does it mean? Either that the churches are targeted on purpose or that every millimeter of the Kherson region has been shelled, making the damaging of the churches a coincidence. Neither option sounds comforting.
However, I know that each attack will bring out more prayers, and the prayers will make us stronger in the face of evil. And even if they destroy all church buildings here on earth, they will not be able to destroy the true church of the Living God.
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!
Psalm 143:8, 10
One response to “10/10/2023 – Over the past week, I have seen at least three reports of churches being damaged during shelling…”
So true! Jesus said, “on this rock I will build My church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” The church in Ukraine will prevail, too!
