10/13/2023 – We put trust in the Lord and wait upon His deliverance

From Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 596):

Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God
Psalm‬ ‭146:3‬, 5 ‭

I was busy with many things today and only had the time to check the news in the evening. I hesitated for a moment, convincing myself that it would all go away if I did not read about it. Mentioning of atrocities in Israel resonates with the stories from the first months of this invasion or the occupied territories of Ukraine. I remember the times when the UN said they were “extremely concerned” about the situation in Ukraine and encouraged “all parties” to negotiate while we felt helpless, warning the public that unpunished evil spreads. It feels like it is peaking through every creek. And now, many world leaders still claim to be “highly concerned” about Israel.

We put trust in the Lord and wait upon His deliverance.

  1. John Bunyan, writer of “Pilgrim’s Progress”, and sufferer of many dark nights of the soul: “That Scripture came into my heart ‘This for many days.’
Indeed, I found it was so, for I could not be delivered or brought to peace again until 2 1/2 years were completely finished. Wherefore these words, though in themselves they tended to no discouragement, yet for me, who feared this condition would be eternal, they were sometimes as a help and a refreshment to me. I reassured myself with the thought that many days are not forever- many days will have an end. Therefore, seeing I was to be afflicted not a few, but many days, yet I was glad it was but for many days. This, I say, I would recall for myself sometimes and give myself a help. As soon as ever the word came into my mind, at first I knew my trouble would be long..”
