1/6/2024 – But above all else, we trust in God’s mercy and His saving hand…

Today’s picture is from a community clean-up at the apartment building hit by a missile on January 2. The volunteers came to clear up the debris, retrieve anything worth saving from the apartments, and board up the windows. Someone put up a Ukrainian flag. The picture was taken by Yan Dobronosov, who labeled it as “Unbroken.”

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 681):

‭‭Sing aloud to God our strength;
shout for joy to the God of Jacob!
Psalm‬ ‭81:1‬

I don’t know if it’s pessimism, fatalism, or sad realism, but we occasionally ask each other, “Do you think there will be a missile strike tonight? Or when will they attack?” We might have a hypothesis, relying on past observations, or we may casually dismiss it with the “come what may” attitude, but these thoughts are at the back of our minds often.

The weather forecast promises a significant temperature drop early next week (up to -20°C/-4 F). The local military administrations have issued warnings and requested preparations for the likely blackouts and lack of heat as Russian massive missile attacks on the energy system usually coincide with freezing temperatures. So, we are mentally preparing ourselves for this.

At the same time, it’s not like it’s inevitable. We know that we can trust our air defense, and we appreciate all the initiatives that try to strengthen it (read more here https://acesse.dev/dmjaz). But above all else, we trust in God’s mercy and His saving hand. During the massive attack on January 2, a missile hit a hospital where our wounded defenders go through rehabilitation, but it got stuck in the first floor and did not explode. Isn’t it an amazing proof of God’s goodness and steadfast love?
We’ll keep holding on to His promises.
