In October ruzzians focused their ground attacks on Avdiivka. This city with population of about 35,000 before the war has been completely destroyed over the past few months. A few people remain, refusing to leave their ruined homes. The area is under constant shelling. Not many volunteers dare to make trips to Avdiivka, but some do. In this video, you can see how a team of volunteers led by a chaplain Leonid Nomerchuk, delivers some food and supplies to Avdiivka, how they try to convince people to evacuate, how they pray and worship with people. It hurt to watch this video – so much suffering, so many lives are ruined…
In 2014 -18 we made many humanitarian aid trips to Avdiivka, a church was planted and Alex Zaitsev has been pastoring it. Even though Avdiivka has always been close to the front lines of the war from 2014 and there was the damage inflicted by shelling over the years, this year ruzzians made it a target for systematic, relentless destruction.
Alex’s church called Church Without Walls has moved to Pokrovsk. That town is getting its share of shelling, too lately. But Avdiivka is completely destroyed.
