4/13/2024 – Ukrainians probably didn’t know the names of any House Speakers before Mike Johnson…

From: Maia Mikhaluk (779th day):

Ukrainians probably didn’t know the names of any House Speakers before Mike Johnson. But this particular House Speaker is well known and will be remembered by Ukrainians for sure. He has been single-handedly blocking the vote on much-needed military aid to Ukraine (it will pass if it’s put to vote) – meanwhile, it very literally costs us lives, homes, land, cities, energy infrastructure and more. It doesn’t help that it’s known that Mike Johnson is an evangelical Christian. Those of us in evangelism ministries have extra questions when explaining that Christianity is about what Christ did on the Cross for us; it’s not about what Christ’s followers (or those who claim to be Christians) actually do. The Good Samaritan parable is helpful in those discussions with non-believers. But still, when a political party or a politician uses Christianity as a banner (or a way to manipulate their voters), unfortunately, it ends up being a bad testimony. Undoubtedly, it must be hard to be a Christian and a politician, but look, Esther managed!

Knowing and speaking Bible verses is not as important as actions. We are not naive; we know who is pulling the strings behind the curtain, but Mike Johnson said when elected as a speaker: “I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear: that God is the one who raises up those in authority.” Now, for a few months, he has a choice to do what is right or to hold Ukrainians as hostages in political games. It’s not either the USA’s southern border security or helping Ukraine. It’s all pre-election manipulations. Remember the Good Samaritan’s parable. Priest and Levite had important business to attend to, they couldn’t help. The only difference is that ruzzia (the robbers) is your enemy too.

Christianity Today published a letter that Southern Baptist leaders have written to Mike Johnson, who is a member and former official of their denomination, urging him to support Ukraine in Russia’s war. I will put a link in the comments. It’s good to finally hear Evangelical leaders speak up. I hope they are heard.

Ukrainian evangelical leaders are appealing to Mike Johnson, but they are not representing voters, so I doubt that will have any effect on him, but maybe it will be heard by American Christians over the voices of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tucker Carlson, and their likes.

  1. Psalm 146

Nor in man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:
