4/27/2024 – I keep thinking about the children who need to shelter now, who won’t spend the night in their beds, who will be terrified because of the explosions, who might not see a morning…

From: Ira Kapitonova in Kyiv (Day 793):

‭Vindicate me, O God,
and defend my cause against an ungodly people,
from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me!
Psalm 43:1

If I had to describe this day, I’d say it was a day of striking contrasts.

In the morning, we enjoyed an amazing Science Fair at our school. The kids got to present the projects they could prepare with their families. It was a fun time of learning and encouraging each other. Everyone kept thanking God there were no air raids. It was a time of joy and celebration of childhood.

Later in the afternoon, I read about two hospitals being urgently evacuated. There was information that those hospitals may be targeted as “terrorist locations.” That’s why the city authorities arranged transfers to different hospitals around the city. This report hit me hard. It is one of the largest children’s hospitals in Kyiv, and it includes a department for kids with cerebral palsy and severe neurological conditions. Evacuating them, especially as they need to be in constant touch with their doctor, feels cruel.

It’s about midnight here. We’ve had an air raid for the past hour. Cruise and ballistic missiles have been launched at different regions of Ukraine. There are reports of several Russian strategic aviation aircraft going towards launching points. More missiles are to be expected around 3:30 a.m. I keep thinking about the children who need to shelter now, who won’t spend the night in their beds, who will be terrified because of the explosions, who might not see a morning.

What a striking contrast in values and worldviews!

Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling!
Psalm 43:3

  1. Two years ago-

    4/28/2022 – Belgorod Dnestrovsky
    From Lxxx (Day 64): Dear brothers and sisters, Thank you for your prayers. For a long time, the territory of Ukraine from the Dniester to the Danube was an oasis of peaceful life. Despite the bombing of the coastal zone and attempts to land troops from the sea, our life was relatively calm and comfortable compared to the events in other parts of Ukraine. Yesterday the enemy made the second blow at the bridge across the Dniester Estuary and destroyed it. Now we are cut off from the main part of the country and this is a big problem for the logistics of all areas of activity. Our town is so much connected with Odessa that it’s hard to imagine the life in separation.

    Two families of our church live on the coast on the other side of the bridge. It usually took them about 30 minutes to come to the church. Now they will have to make a big circle and drive two hours and a half or even longer because of the traffic jam caused by all the vehicles who will go that way.

    The enemy continues to attack Nikolayev trying to move in the direction of Odessa but repulsed. Russian ships approached Odessa and can be seen from the shore.

    Yesterday at the local defense center I talked to the woman whose husband is in the army. She lives in a house and has a garden where they used to work together growing vegetables and fruits. Now she does all the work alone. It brought thoughts of all wives mothers and children whose husbands, sons, fathers are fighting now and they think of them day and night, read and watch the news all the time, call them and feel panic each time when their phones don’t answer. Please, pray for them.

    It’s nice to see the desire of the refugees who stay in our church and clinic to help. They take parts in the activities we do in the church and help in the local defense center.

    Please, pray for our area to restore the connection with a mainland. Please, pray for us to find the ways to serve people around in order to bring them a good news.

    In Christ,
    Lxxx
