6/3/2024 — Update from Belgorod Dnestrovsky: A Church Making a Difference in War

From: Lyuda Betin ( Day 831)

Lyuda and Pastor Sergey

Dear brothers and sisters,
My church and I personally thankyou so much for praying for Sergey. This morning he went to the recruiting center and after the interview he was told that he remains in reserve. Our church was fasting and praying for Sergey and for other pastors who are actively ministering now during the war. This cruel and destructive war is not just a struggle of flesh and blood on the physical level, first of all, it is a spiritual war and we see this war very clearly. Therefore, it is important for all of us to be fully armed in the armor of God. Over these 2 years we have seen a lot of miracles. We see how God works in the hearts of people and how the values of people around us change. Our church has grown and we have expanded our ministries and are looking for new opportunities to serve those with different needs.

Our first goal today as a church is to support our military to give them spiritual support and meet their needs. Those who know Christ endure all the hardships of war more easily, they have the strength of spirit and are able to support their friends. It’s amazing how God answers our prayers, all people for whom we have been praying for these 2 years by name are alive and continue to serve. Thank you for praying with us.

Dr. Anya is on our priority prayer list now. The hottest battles are taking place where her medical unit is located. She doesn’t have time for calls and messages, all we get from her now is a plus sign. It means she is fine. We ask God to keep our Dr. Anya safe and be her protection.

Last week was special for the counselors of our center, we made a trip to Lviv, the city in the west of Ukraine. We had a training in Christian Trauma Therapy. What we most often work with now as counselors is trauma so it was very important for us to learn a new method and explore it in practice. We are very grateful to our teacher Rich Greete who made a long trip from the USA to teach us.

It was also a great joy to have with us those few days the founder of our center, our dear teacher, pastor, mentor and dear-dear friend Langston Haygood. We also thank Pamela McGinty, Crissy Greete and Bob Burnham for helping us get through the training.

It was a very special week of studies, fellowship, encouragement and rest. In Lviv we felt much calmer, alarms don’t sound so often there, we didn’t hear the sounds of explosions and didn’t see drones in the sky like in our region.

When we returned home we were glad to see that our group of refugees was very organized, they met for breakfast in our absence and had a good time. They know how support each other and care for those in the group who needs help. Vladimir, the man who is blind, needs this special care now. His wife is in hospital and he needs help. He was OK last week because people in the group took care of him, bringing him food and other things he needed.
We thank you for your prayers, please continue to pray for us and may God’s peace be with us all.

  1. Dear Lyuda,

Praising the Lord with you for such good news about Sergey being able to stay home and continue to minister where he is already serving!

I will continue to keep Dr. Anya in my prayers, may the Lord protect her physically and spiritually and may the light of Jesus shine through her brightly!

It is great to hear about the training and encouragement from dear friends, and the time to rest and recover.

Praying for the soldiers and people on the frontlines, may God continue to be merciful and bring many miracles their way!

    Love in Christ,

    Jill
