Chasiv Yar is another town in the Donetsk region that ruzzians are trying to “liberate”/destroy. Like Mariupol, Bakhmut, Maryinka, Avdiivka and many other towns in the east of Ukraine it gets leveled to the ground by ruzzian artillery, air strikes, missile and drone attacks.

The way ruzzians slowly but thoroughly destroy everything in their path proves the ISW’s (Institute for the Study of War) “theory of victory” of the ruzzian dictator putin which is based on the fact that ruzzia will be able to make slow, but endless progress on the battlefield in Ukraine. Without speeding up Western aid to Ukraine, this will only prolong the war and strengthen putin’s commitment to trying to destroy Ukrainian statehood.

These slow advances are costing ruzzia a lot – during just the week from June 23 to June 30, 2024, the losses of the Russian army in Ukraine amounted to about 8,340 personnel and 1,243 units of weapons and military equipment. But lives of ruzzians mean no more to putin than lives of Ukrainians.

At the same time, putin maintains his intention to completely destroy Ukrainian statehood and identity, and all his goals regarding the territorial seizure of Ukraine are a means of achieving this goal, ISW emphasizes . Putin likely hopes that ruzzia’s creeping progress in Ukraine will convince the West that a Ukrainian victory is unattainable and that concessions on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are preferable to Ukraine’s defeat. Currently, putin is making it clear that he is unwilling to accept anything short of Ukraine’s complete surrender. However, as his remarks and demands demonstrate, he will view any ceasefire agreement as a mechanism to prepare ruzzia to resume offensive operations in the future to achieve its overall goals, the ISW warned.
