7/8/2024 — Update From Belgorod Dnestrovsky: Tragedy in Children’s Hospital in Kyiv

From: Lyuda Betina (Day 866)
This is the third year we have been living in a strange state where we cannot relax for a single minute. You have to be constantly in tension and be ready for unexpected events. And it is impossible to get used to it.

Last week, Sergey and I traveled to Kyiv, spent three wonderful days with our son and our daughter-in-law. We were happy to visit the church of Holy Trinity there where Sergey was invited to preach. We had a good time with pastor Ivan and his family. Thirty years ago we were in the same Bible study group where we all received Christ. So many good memories. It was a very special time.

On the day of our departure, we were having dinner at our son’s apartment when the rocket flying towards Kyiv was shot down and its fragments fell on a building nearby, causing a fire. On the way to the station, we passed that building and watched as the fire engines were extinguishing the fire. Our time in Kyiv, full of joyful meetings and communication, ended with a sad event. And we left with mixed feelings of joy and sadness.

And today’s news just shocked everyone. Around 10 a.m., the enemy launched a combined missile attack on Ukraine using air-, sea-, and land-based missiles. In total there were launched 38 missiles of various types. One of them hit a children’s hospital in Kyiv. This is a famous “Ohmatdyt” hospital for children with severe illnesses.

We witness terrible things again like pain, cry, death, children under the rubble. News cameras show children on hemodialysis and little cancer patients with adapted droppers, children after organ transplantation being evacuated from the building of the hospital.

A rescue operation is underway, a lot of people came to help clear the rubble and they are trying to find people under it.
The topic of war has already tired everyone and there is a big desire to switch and think about something else but the war puts such a heavy pressure on us. Our hope is only for God.

Our dear brother, Victor Lukoshkin, is recovering after the surgery and thanks for the prayers. His son Paul, who is fighting in a war, came for a few days home and paid a visit to us. We were so happy to have tea with him. He hasn’t been very talkative lately, but we had a good chat. He told about his everyday life, about his friends, about challenges and problems of his service. We are very proud of him, he is a true man of faith.

We do not hear much from Dr. Anya, she is still on the front line and we know that she is very busy. We are praying for her safety and for her rest.
Please pray with us, especially for those affected by the missile attacks, there are so many of them.
Thank you for your prayers and for your support

  1. Dear Lyuda,

Praying with you for those effected by the missile attacks!

This war and the acts of this war are very heartbreaking!

May God have mercy on Ukraine, May He bring an end to this war, quickly!

It is so good you were able to travel to Kyiv and encourage the people of the Holy Trinity church, along with Ivan and his wife. It has been 30 years since I first went with a CoMission team to Odessa, it was such a blessing to be there and see God work in amazing ways! And to hear how He was working in BD!

    Love in Christ,

    Jill

“Why do the nations rage?” [Psalm 2]
Why do they plot and scheme?
Their bullets can’t stop the prayers we pray
In the name of the Prince of Peace
We walk in faith and remember long ago
How they killed Him and then how on the third day He arose
    Well, things may look bad
    And things may look grim
But all these things must pass except the things that are of Him

Where are the nails that pierced His hands?
Well the nails have turned to rust
    But behold the Man
    He is risen
    And He reigns
In the hearts of the children
    Rising up in His name
Where are the thorns that drew His blood?
Well, the thorns have turned to dust
    But not so the love
    He has given
    No, it remains
In the hearts of the children
Who will love while the nations rage

“The Lord in Heaven laughs” [Psalm 2]
He knows what is to come
While all the chiefs of state plan their big attacks
    Against His anointed One
The Church of God she will not bend her knees
To the gods of this world though they promise her peace
    She stands her ground
    Stands firm on the Rock
Watch their walls tumble down when she lives out His love

Where are the nails that pierced His hands?
Well the nails have turned to rust
    But not so the Man
    He is risen
    And He reigns
In the hearts of the children
    Rising up in His name
Where are the thorns that drew His blood?
Well, the thorns have turned to dust
    But behold the love
    He has given
    It remains
In the hearts of the children
Who will love while the nations rage
    While the nations rage

  3. Rev. 21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

    “Everybody each and all
    We’re gonna die eventually
It’s no more or less our faults
    Than it is our destiny
So now Lord I come to you
    Asking only for Your grace
You know what I’ve put myself through
All those empty dreams I chased
And when my body lies in the ruins
Of the lies that nearly ruined me
Will You pick up the pieces
    That were pure and true
And breathe Your life into them
    And set them free?
And when You start this world over
    Again from scratch
    Will You make me anew
Out of the stuff that lasts?
Stuff that’s purer than gold is
And clearer than glass could ever be
    Can I be with You?
    Can I be with You?”
