The evacuation of children from 28 towns in Ukraine’s Donetsk region is underway, with 372 families, including 481 children, leaving on Aug. 6, reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Aug. 7.
According to the report, police and emergency service units from the Lyman, Illinivka, Myrnohrad, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, Selydove, and Kurakhiv territorial communities were involved in the evacuation effort.
“Children are being transported exclusively in armored vehicles, with special protection like helmets and bulletproof vests,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
The evacuation is only being carried out with the consent of the children’s parents or legal guardians, and at least one parent must accompany each child, according to the ministry.
“Yesterday, 372 families with 481 children evacuated from dangerous areas. In total, 2,462 families with 3,903 children are slated for evacuation,” the report noted.
