You go about your day, keeping your students safe, helping them get back into the habit of studying after the summer. You talk to other teachers seeking advice or sharing encouragement. Life doesn’t seem easy, but it feels bearable.
Then someone asks you, “Did you hear about Poltava?” And by the way this question is asked you know that you’d much rather not know what happened there because it might turn out to be more than you can handle.

Russian ballistic missiles attacked Poltava today. They hit an educational institution, one of the best military Institute of Communications, and a hospital. The strike happened while people were evacuating to the bomb shelters. With ballistic missiles, you have just over a minute to get to a safe place after the sirens go off. As of now, it’s been reported about 51 killed and over 270 injured. Ten years since the initial aggression, yet we are still not numb to these atrocities.

Later tonight, the Russians bombed Sumy and damaged one of the universities there. They’re the darkness trying to destroy not just our present and everything we worked for in the past but also targeting our future. That’s why we have no choice but to be the light and shine brighter than ever before.
