The new European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen, has vowed to sever all ties with Russia in the energy sector, acknowledging that efforts to reduce reliance on Russian energy have slowed. “Something new has to happen,” Jørgensen said, according to Politico on Dec. 12.

Dan Jørgensen, the new European Commissioner for Energy, has made it a top priority to develop a plan to permanently sever all energy ties between the European Union and Russia.

Jørgensen’s plan will focus primarily on gas, along with oil and nuclear energy, with a goal of implementation within the first 100 days of his tenure, setting a deadline of mid-March 2025.
