Pilate, the leader of the “global power” of the day, saw injustice but did not want to be troubled by it. He tried to wash his hands of the problem saying it’s not my affair. He simply wanted to “conflict” to stop. He had a responsibility to uphold justice and suppress evil, and he failed miserably.
World leaders are put in place for exactly the same role, and all are tempted like Pilate. They consider an easy path to vainglory rather than fulfilling the office under God. They must, however, no matter how complicated, fight for justice and good. Pilate’s short life is over and little did he know the most important decision of his life was a tedious discomfort that he thought he could easily dismiss.
